Chris O'Dowd (Actor) .. Roy
Born: October 09, 1979 in Boyle, Co Roscommon, Ireland
Best Known For: The IT Crowd.
Early-life: Born in Boyle, Co Roscommon, Ireland, on October 9, 1979. He's the youngest of five children to a graphic designer and a psychotherapist. He didn't finish his politics and sociology degree at University College Dublin, prefering instead to attend the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, where he met his future IT Crowd co-star Katherine Parkinson.
Career: O'Dowd made his TV and film debuts in 2003, in an episode of Red Cap and Conspiracy of Silence respectively. Other early roles came in Vera Drake, Festival, The Clinic and Showbands. Channel 4 sitcom The IT Crowd made him a star in the UK, while the movies The Boat That Rocked, Dinner for Schmucks and Bridesmaids raised his profile in the US. He then created, wrote and starred in the sitcom Moone Boy, which is loosely based on his own childhood. More recently he appeared in the films The Sapphires, This Is 40 and St Vincent.
Quote: "I would be nothing if it wasn't for the town where I grew up and the people who gave me my inspiration."
Trivia: Parts of the series Moone Boy were filmed in his hometown.
Richard Ayoade (Actor) .. Moss
Best Known For: The IT Crowd.
Early-life: Born Richard Ellef Ayoade on June 12, 1977, in London. His mother is Norwegian, his father Nigerian, and Richard is their only child. The family left the capital when he was young and settled in Ipswich. He was interested in film from an early age, and wrote plays and sketches while still at school before landing a place at Cambridge to study law, where he met David Mitchell and joined the famous Footlights group. On leaving university he spent two years writing for TV sketch shows and attempting to become a stand-up comedian.
Career: Ayoade's breakthrough came when he and Matthew Holness created fictional horror author Garth Merenghi; a stage show featuring the character won the Perrier Award, which was followed by the Channel 4 series Garth Merenghi's Darkplace. Ayoade went on to appear in The Mighty Boosh, Nathan Barley, Bunny and the Bull, and The IT Crowd. He made his big-screen directorial debut with the acclaimed Submarine (which he also wrote, adapting it from the novel by Joe Dunthorne), and has since directed The Double as well as numerous music videos for acts such as the Arctic Monkeys, Super Furry Animals, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Kasabian. He's was a team captain on Channel 4 panel show Was It Something I Said? and took over as host of Gadget Man from Stephen Fry.
Quote: "I find performing very difficult. It's difficult to be a good actor. I get very nervous, even though it sounds disingenuous, because you could legitimately go, 'Well, why do it?'"
Trivia: Here's Ayoade's tips for aspiring directors: "Try not to get depressed. You need to be healthy so don't get a cold. Get comfortable shoes because you don't sit down for two months."
Noel Fielding (Actor) .. Richmond
Born: May 21, 1973 in London
Best Known For: The Mighty Boosh.
Early-life: Born May 21, 1973, in Westminster to 18-year-old parents who, despite the fact he was shy and introverted as a child, encouraged him in his desire to be an entertainer. He has revealed that they 'had a lot of parties' but has not spoken much about his youth, except to say that although he wasn't keen on their lifestyle at the time, he now admits they inspired his unusual fashion sense. He was educated at Croydon Art College and Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College (now Buckinghamshire New University) before embarking on a stand-up career.
Career: Fielding performed regularly as a stand-up comedian during the late 1990s, and appeared repeatedly on the TV stand-up showcase Lee Mack's Gas. He formed a short-lived but well-received comedy partnership with Russell Brand. His highly animated stand-up routine included surreal stories, physical comedy, characters, and songs, much like his later work alongside Julian Barratt in The Mighty Boosh, which became a monster hit when it moved to TV in 2004. He remains an active stand-up, has his own Channel 4 show (Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy) and is a popular team captain on never Mind the Buzzcocks. He's also still a keen artist and has shown his work in a number of exhibitions.
Quote: "When I'm 70 I might be a man in a park just wandering around, speaking in tongues with kids throwing bread at me."
Trivia: His brother, Michael, played Naboo in The Mighty Boosh; both his parents also appeared briefly in the show, and all three have featured in Luxury Comedy.
Katherine Parkinson (Actor) .. Jen
Born: March 09, 1978 in Cambridge
Best Known For: The IT Crowd.
Early-life: Born in 1972, Katherine studied at Tiffin Girls' School in London and then read Classics at St Hilda's College, Oxford before moving to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art where she met Chris O'Dowd, her fellow lead in The IT Crowd lead, for the first time. During her studies she left the course to star in the play The Age of Consent.
Career: While originally intending to pursue a career as a serious actress, her comic abilities saw her quickly noticed by talent scouts. She landed a role in ITV's Doc Marten before The IT Crowd came along. Other recent roles include hit movie The Boat That Rocked and sitcom The Old Guys. She also has several theatre credits.
Quote: "I always say I owe Lamda so much. It's about 10 grand."
Trivia: She was awarded the Best Television Comedy Actress award at the British Comedy Awards in December 2009.
Orlando Seale (Actor) .. Peter
Sarah Hadland (Actor) .. Margaret
Born: May 15, 1971 in London
Best Known For: Playing Stevie in Miranda.
Early-life: Sarah was born in London on May 15, 1971. She trained in dance from an early age and became involved with the Scamps youth group in Wilmslow. She went on to train at the Laine Theatre Arts College in Epsom and it wasn't long before she began starring in West End musicals such as Cats and Grease.
Career: Hadland began making her mark on TV in episodes of Bad Girls, Casualty, The Bill, Peep Show and Doctors. She landed bigger roles in Green Wing and Broken News. Since then, she has starred in Moving Wallpaper, That Mitchell and Webb Look, Horrible Histories, Waterloo Road, The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff and The Job Lot. On the big screen, she has starred in Confetti (2006), Magicians (2007) and Leap Year (2010). She reached a wider audience in 2009 when she began playing Stevie in BBC sitcom Miranda.
