Early-life:
Born Carlos Irwin Estévez on September 3, 1965, in New York. He almost died due to birth complications - his middle name is that of the doctor who saved him. He's one of Martin Sheen and his artist wife Janet Templeton's four children - all of whom have become actors. As a child, Charlie fought constantly with his older sibling Emilio, and was a gifted student until he began skipping school to play baseball.
Career:
Sheen's screen debut came in 1974's The Execution of Private Slovik. Despite dreaming of a baseball career, he began acting professionally in the mid-1980s. He appeared in Red Dawn, Lucas and Ferris Bueller's Day Off before Platoon made him a star in 1986. He followed it up with Wall Street, Young Guns, Eight Men Out, Major League and two Hot Shots! movies. Sheen's career suffered as a result of his drug abuse during the 1990s, but he returned to form with appearances in Being John Malkovich, Spin City, Two and a Half Men and Anger Management.
